The 178th Wing hosted the 2017 Ohio Air National Guard Outstanding Airmen of the Year awards banquet to honor the nominees from units across the state, Jan. 6, 2018, at the Courtyard Marriott in Springfield, Ohio. The OAY awards honor Airmen in six rank tiers, recognizing those who go above and beyond their daily duties and exhibit strong work ethic, community involvement and leadership.

Ohio Army National Guard Lt. Col. Jeffrey Watkins (third from left) was among a group of Ohio National Guard Soldiers and Airmen who attended the 33rd annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Breakfast Jan. 15, 2018, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Event organizers say it is the largest of its kind in the U.S. to honor the legacy of the civil rights leader, who was friends with Watkins’ Family in the 1960s.
