The Ohio Army National Guard was named the gold winner earlier this year in the 2018 Army Communities of Excellence competition among all Army National Guard submissions. The accomplishment was celebrated during a July 2, 2018, ceremony at the Maj. Gen. Robert S. Beightler Armory in Columbus, Ohio, where key contributors (pictured) to the award submission were recognized by Maj. Gen. Mark E. Bartman, Ohio adjutant general. The annual ACOE competition measures and recognizes the best performing installations and communities in the Army, based on assessment criteria including leadership, strategic planning, customer focus and results. It is the sixth time Ohio has won since 2003.

The Ohio National Guard wishes everyone a happy Independence Day, and gives thanks to our current and former Soldiers and Airmen who have helped Americans to enjoy more than 240 years of freedom. As we celebrate our nation's 242nd birthday this Fourth of July, please take time to remember the brave men and women who, from the Revolutionary War to the Korean War to the present, volunteered to serve. These Citizen-Warriors have sacrificed to protect the freedoms we are celebrating.
