Capt. Branko Stankovic, a member of the Serbian Armed Forces, fires a .M240 machine gun on June 5, 2014, while training with Soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 137th Aviation Regiment during the battalion's two-week annual training period at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center in Edinburgh, Ind. The training was part of a National Guard State Partnership Program exchange between Serbia and Ohio.

Warrant Officer Charles D. Moore and Master Sgt. Joseph P. Medved, Headquarters and Service Company, 112th Engineer Battalion, would be awarded the Silver Star Medal for their D-day heroism.

On this day in Ohio National Guard history, June 6, 1944, the 112th Engineer Battalion lands on the beaches of Normandy, France in support of the 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions. Warrant Officer Charles D. Moore and Master Sgt. Joseph P. Medved, Headquarters and Service Company, 112th Engineer Battalion, would be awarded the Silver Star Medal for their D-day heroism.

239th Army Birthday is June 14, 2014.

The U.S. Army celebrates its birthday on June 14, as Congress adopted the Continental Army on that date in 1775. Flag Day also is celebrated on this date, and commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that date in 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.
