In celebration of Women's History Month, the Ohio National Guard remembers Eyvonne Turner, who was the first black female Soldier to enlist in the Ohio National Guard. Turner is seen here receiving the oath of enlistment from Maj. Gen. Dana Stewart, Ohio adjutant general, in January 1973.

In conjunction with Women's History Month, Ohio Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor (from left), Retired Col. Thomas N. Moe, director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services, and Maj. Gen. Deborah A. Ashenhurst, Ohio adjutant general, help honor Ohio's military women and the members of the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame March 4, 2013, by unveiling two exhibits in the corridor east of the Ohio Statehouse Museum Gallery. The exhibits depict Ohio women's military service throughout history, including famous members of the Hall of Fame.

The Ohio National Guard minuteman statue outside the Maj. Gen. Robert S. Beightler in northwest Columbus stands covered in snow March 6, 2013. Most areas in Central Ohio received 4 to 6 inches of snow overnight as a late winter snowstorm blanketed most of the Midwestern and Eastern U.S.

On this day in Ohio National Guard history March 8, 1944, the Battle of Hill 700 begins for the 37th Infantry Division. This Army Signal Corps photo shows litter bearers hand carrying wounded Soldiers over a back mountain trail during the battle. Captured prisoners claimed that the four days of fighting had resulted in the virtual annihilation of the 2nd and 3rd battalions of the Japanese 23rd Infantry and the 13th Infantry.

Brig. Gen. John C. Harris Jr., Ohio assistant adjutant general for Army, officially opens the Known Distance Rifle Range by firing the ceremonial “First Shot” on the 25-meter range Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Camp Ravenna Joint Military Training Center. Afterward, visitors were able to observe a training exercise at the new Counter IED Range, also located on Camp Ravenna.

Community leaders gathered March 19, 2013, at the Woodlawn Training and Community Center in Woodlawn, Ohio for the annual Southwest Ohio Joint Employer Event, where they learned about the Ohio National Guard and its community, state and federal missions. Representatives from organizations including the Cincinnati Reds, Kroger, Duke Energy, GE Aviation, Cincinnati Police and Fire Departments and Hewlett-Packard Co. experienced hands-on training similar to what Soldiers go through, such as the Beamhit (pictured) M16 rifle Laser Marksmanship Training System.
