CAMP PERRY JOINT TRAINING CENTER, Ohio — The International Organization of Standards awarded the Ohio Army National Guard's Field Maintenance Shop 17 its ISO 9001:2008 certification earlier this year.

The ISO 9001:2008 is an international standard to facilitate consistency in the quality of goods or services. It provides a methodology to measure performance and a focus on continual improvement. ISO certification recognizes a commitment to quality and is a significant achievement in an organization's history.

In November 2009, then-Col. Michael W. McHenry, deputy chief of staff of logistics for the Ohio Army Guard, who is now a brigadier general and commander of the Ohio Army National Guard's Special Troops Command, designated FMS 17 at Camp Perry near Port Clinton, to be the second Ohio Army National Guard maintenance facility to seek ISO certification. He launched an aggressive plan to achieve this goal within 12 months. Master Sgt. Dennis Lidke and the FMS 17 staff embraced the goal, and with the support of the OHARNG Surface Maintenance Office and the contracted services of Perry Johnson Incorporated and Perry Johnson Registrars, met the high standards required for certification in October 2010.

At that time, FMS 17 passed a comprehensive audit, resulting in a recommendation for certification on their first attempt. This certification represents the high degree of commitment and strong efforts of the FMS 17 management and employees.
