2 Guard members prepare for
new service overseas

Military vehicles belonging to 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany, are ferried over the Mosoni-Duna River during a rehearsal river crossing July 4, 2017, in Hungary. The movement was part of the Szentes Axe exercise that included the State Partnership Program partners Ohio National Guard and Hungarian Defence Forces. Two Ohio National Guard members recently were selected as the new bilateral affairs officers to represent the organization at the U.S. embassies in Serbia and Hungary later this year.

With the Ohio National Guard supporting a variety of missions around the world, the Pre-Mobilization Training Assistance Element (PTAE) ensures that Soldiers and units are trained for what faces them, before they deploy.

Change of Command at the 121st ARW

Col. Dave Johnson (right) receives the guidon of the 121st Air Refueling Wing from Col. James Camp, Ohio assistant adjutant general for Air, during a change of command ceremony Jan. 6, 2019, at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus, Ohio. Johnson, who began his military career in 1986 as a jet engine mechanic with the 121st Tactical Fighter Wing, returns to the 121st ARW after serving as the 179th Airlift Wing Operations Group commander in Mansfield, Ohio. He replaces Col. Mark Auer, who is moving to a position with Joint Force Headquarters-Ohio.

Assistant adjutant general for Air promoted

Brig. Gen. James R. Camp (center), Ohio assistant adjutant general for Air, accepts the posting of personal colors as part of his promotion ceremony Jan. 9, 2019, at the Maj. Gen. Robert S. Beightler Armory in Columbus, Ohio. Camp is responsible for directing Air National Guard operations and establishing policy to ensure mission readiness of more than 5,100 personnel assigned to four flying wings and six geographically separated support units.

178th Security Forces defenders
brave cold to keep base safe

A member of the 178th Wing Security Forces shovels snow at the Springfield Air National Guard Base during the weekend of Jan. 12-13, 2019, in Springfield, Ohio. Between 2 to 4 inches of snow hit Ohio during the first winter storm of the season, with approximately 5-10 inches more of snow predicted for the following weekend.

The Ohio National Guard has a long history of supporting inaugural ceremonies for Ohio’s governors, helping to honor a new state chief executive or one who is re-elected for a second term.

Mike DeWine took office at midnight Jan. 14, 2019, as Ohio’s 70th governor.

The Union County Drug Free Coalition recognized the Ohio National Guard Counterdrug Task Force as the 2019 Community Champion Award winner, for the team’s significant contributions to educating youth on making healthy life choices.
