Assistant adjutant general for Army promoted to brigadier general
Brig. Gen. Thomas E. Moore II, Ohio assistant adjutant general for Army, stands at attention during his promotion ceremony Nov. 3, 2020, at the Maj. Gen. Robert S. Beightler Armory in Columbus, Ohio. As the recently appointed assistant adjutant general, Moore is responsible for establishing policies, priorities and oversight for the readiness of approximately 11,500 Ohio Army National Guard Soldiers in six brigade-level major subordinate commands.

New name, new heights of success:
ONG Endurance Team marks successful overall season
Competitors run the Standhope Ultra 30k and 60k Challenge this summer in Sawtooth National Forest in central Idaho. All-Guard Marathon Team members took the opportunity to compete in one of the few races across the country that wasn’t canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ONG Endurance Team’s first year operating under its new name has been marked by both team and individual successes, including a third-place team finish at the National Guard Marathon Time Trials in September.

Retired Ohio Army National Guard Col. Jane M. Lengel (left photo) and retired Ohio Army National Guard Master Sgt. Timothy A. Espich are among the 2020 inductees into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame. Due to COVID-19, the traditional induction ceremony got a new look this year, with 20 separate ceremonies conducted around the state for each of the honorees to recognize them for their service to their communities, outside of their military service.

Honoring all those who’ve served
Generations of patriots have dedicated themselves to the defense of our country. They’ve made us stronger and far more resilient as a nation. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II; the Ohio National Guard answered the call, and was in every theater the American Army fought in. Ohio National Guard Soldiers and Airmen continue to answer the call today, for duty overseas as well as protecting the homeland and serving their communities. Maj. Gen. John C. Ohio aviation unit continues support of U.S. Central Command overseas
A CH-47 Chinook, operated by Soldiers with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 238th Aviation Regiment, picks up troops in the 28th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade’s area of operations in the Middle East, Nov. 11, 2020. About 100 Soldiers from the North Canton, Ohio-based unit are in the midst of an approximately yearlong deployment in support of U.S. Central Command.
121st ARW Airmen innovate to help solve Air Force-wide aircraft battery testing failure
A KC-135 Stratotanker operated by the 121st Air Refueling Wing sits on the flight line at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus, Ohio. Members of the 121st ARW recently partnered with active-duty Airmen at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla. to help revise outdated procedures for testing the condition of aircraft batteries on the KC-135 Stratotanker and C-130 Hercules aircraft.

Celebrating Thanksgiving
The U.S. Army Transport Puebla is shown loading 2,000 Soldiers of the 37th Infantry Division for their return to the United States on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 1945, at San Fernando, La Union, Luzon, Philippine Islands, following more than three years overseas and 592 days of combat for the 37th ID.
