Guard continues critical pandemic support into 2021
Ohio National Guard Soldiers, Airmen and State Defense Force members have been serving in a variety of critical roles and missions in the fight against COVID-19 for the past 10 months, and remain ready to continue serving their fellow Ohioans, as directed by the governor.

Assistant adjutant general for Air promoted to major general
Maj. Gen. James R. Camp (right), Ohio assistant adjutant general for Air, was promoted during a Jan. 8, 2021, ceremony at the Maj. Gen. Robert S. Beightler Armory in Columbus, Ohio. Camp, who has served as the assistant adjutant general since November 2018, is responsible for directing the Ohio Air National Guard’s day-to-day operations and administration, and helping establish policy to ensure mission readiness of personnel in four flying wings and several support units.
Small but mighty: Ohio ANG headquarters critical in providing support to Ohioans
A small group of about 40 Airmen make up the state’s Air headquarters within Joint Force Headquarters-Ohio. Since March 2020, the headquarters Airmen — led on the full-time side by Col. Gregg Hesterman (right), the Ohio Air National Guard director of staff — have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure that about 300 Airmen, from units around the state, have been able to work seamlessly in a joint environment with nearly 700 Ohio National Guard Soldiers during COVID-19 pandemic support missions.
Maj. Gen. Ellis retires after more than 35 years of service

Ohio National Guard senior leaders lead by example in getting COVID-19 vaccinations
A group of Ohio National Guard senior leaders received their initial COVID-19 vaccinations Jan. 9, 2021, at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in southeast Columbus. Maj. Gen. John C. Harris Jr., Ohio adjutant general, was one of the first in line to get his dose of the Moderna vaccine provided by the U.S. Department of Defense and administered by Airmen from the 121st Medical Group.
Guard to aid federal authorities for presidential inauguration; Soldiers, Airmen also providing security support within state
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has authorized the activation of Ohio National Guard members for deployment to Washington, D.C., in advance of the presidential inauguration. This brings the approximate number of Ohio National Guard members activated to provide assistance to federal authorities in the National Capital Region to 1,000 Soldiers and Airmen. Several hundred ONG members have been called to state active duty to protect Ohio, its citizens, and public buildings and property in anticipation of planned protests in Ohio leading up to the presidential inauguration on Jan. 20.

ONG, Hungarian Defence Forces planning for June 2021 JRTC rotation
Members of the Ohio Army National Guard’s 837th Engineer Battalion conducted a State Partnership Program military-to-military virtual training conference Jan. 19-21, 2021, with Hungarian Defence Forces volunteer soldiers (pictured), in preparation for a bilateral training exercise between the HDF and Ohio National Guard in June at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La. The VTC was one of a series of events that have taken place to plan and prepare for the upcoming training event, which will integrate over 130 Hungarian soldiers with 2,000 members of Ohio’s 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
