Haitian immigrant joins Ohio National Guard, fulfills quest for U.S. citizenship

Ohio Army National Guard Spc. Matthieu Henry, a radiology specialist with the 285th Medical Company, was born in Haiti, moved to the U.S. and eventually joined the Ohio National Guard and became a U.S. citizen. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Henry has served his fellow Ohioans by working at the largest regional food bank in Central Ohio and also has provided support for vaccination and testing efforts throughout the state.

Training to provide care on the front lines

Spc. Hannah Hetman-Maiden (left), of the Ohio Army National Guard's 285th Medical Company, treats simulated casualties during a tactical evacuation exercise lane as part of the Brigade Combat Team Trauma Training (BCT3) course, Jan. 14, 2022, at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Ohio nets top 3 finish at All Guard Endurance Team competition

The Ohio National Guard team earned a third-place finish at the National Guard’s All Guard Endurance Team competition Jan 15, 2022, in Austin, Texas. Five Ohio Guard members qualified for the national team and will compete for the All Guard Team for the next two years at various events. Those making the national team were: Sgt. 1st Class Jerrod Abel, 324th Military Police Company; Sgt. 1st Class Chris Edwards, 147th Regiment (Regional Training Institute); Staff Sgt. William Collins, Company B, 237th Support Battalion; Capt. Victoria Dibacco, Company C, 237th SB; and Capt. Lauren Meyer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 237th SB.

Camp Perry comeback continues

With more than 100 years of training, events and people at the historic Camp Perry Joint Training Center, infrastructure repairs are inevitable and necessary to maintain its status as a premiere shooting, training and conference facility. Several millions in renovations, including the reopened Hough Auditorium (pictured) in 2018, have led to significant improvements at the installation, which has garnered state- and national-level recognition in recent years.

Snow storm doesn't stop maintenance at 180th FW

Tech. Sgt. Jacob Hancock, an F-16 Fighting Falcon mechanic assigned to the 180th Fighter Wing, braves the cold and snow to close up panels on the jet to prevent damage from inclement weather, Jan. 24, 2022, in Swanton, Ohio. The 180th FW performs daily training, conducted in realistic environments and circumstances, ensuring the wing’s Airmen maintain the highest levels of proficiency and readiness for worldwide deployment.

Contingent of Guard members demobilize following completion of hospital missions

Ohio National Guard Soldiers complete their demobilization requirements Jan. 31, 2022, at the Defense Supply Center Columbus in Columbus, Ohio. The Soldiers who participated in the demobilization process, which included medical, financial and administrative reviews, had completed their missions supporting their assigned hospitals throughout the state. Guard members continued to augment other hospital sites still in need of staffing support.
