‘No wrong door’ policy opens possibilities to improve service member, family well-being
The Ohio National Guard recently established a J9 Directorate, which is a comprehensive wellness program specifically focused on prevention, risk reduction and resiliency for its members and their families. The J9 incorporates existing Ohio National Guard programs together with new programs concentrated on awareness and mitigating self-directed harm, violence and substance abuse. It will additionally expand current service member and family-based services by placing them underneath a single manager and dedicated staff that is better able to understand broader issues and trends, and to move to resolve them with the appropriate resources and experts.
Brig. Gen. Eagon, final 73rd Infantry Brigade commander, dies at 84
It is with deep regret and sorrow that the Adjutant General’s Department announces the May 23, 2023, passing of retired Brig. Gen. Herbert B. Eagon Jr. at the age of 84. Eagon joined the Ohio National Guard in 1956 and ended a 37-year career as the final commander of the 73rd Infantry Brigade, a post he held from 1990 to 1993. Additionally, Eagon commanded the 1st Battalion, 166th Infantry from 1976 to 1979. Eagon and his father, Brig. Gen. Herbert B. Eagon Sr., were the first father-son general officers in modern Ohio National Guard history.

On Memorial Day, Americans remember the men and women who have served, fought and died for the nation. The holiday is a solemn reminder of the tremendous price that has been paid to ensure Americans’ liberties and safeguard their way of life. In his 2023 Memorial Day message, Maj. Gen. John C. Harris Jr., Ohio adjutant general, offers his thanks to Ohioans and all Americans who’ve made that sacrifice throughout the country’s history.
