Ohio National Guard
DUAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Ohio National Guard is a unique military enterprise, with a dual mission that consists of federal and state roles, administered by the Ohio Adjutant General’s Department. The adjutant general is responsible to the governor of the State of Ohio and the president of the United States. These two responsibilities involve preparing for and responding to current and emerging homeland security threats, homeland defense initiatives, and national defense roles and missions.

For state missions, the governor, through the adjutant general, commands Guard forces. The governor can call the National Guard into action during local or statewide emergencies, natural disasters or civil disturbances.
