STATE ACTIVE DUTY

The governor has the authority to activate the Ohio National Guard to support and assist local authorities during state emergencies or for homeland defense.

EMAC

The governor has the authority to activate the Ohio National Guard under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, a national mutual aid partnership agreement allowing state-to-state assistance during state or federally declared emergencies.

    HURRICANE MILTON

    On Oct. 7, Gov. Mike DeWine activated a team of more than three dozen members of the Ohio Air National Guard's 200th RED HORSE to support the state of Florida in anticipation of Florida-bound Hurricane Milton.

    HURRICANE HELENE

    On Sept. 20, Gov. Mike DeWine activated elements of the Ohio National Guard to support the state of North Carolina in its recovery from flooding and damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

  • May 2024

    CYBER GUARDIAN FOXTROT

    On May 6, Gov. Mike DeWine called on the Ohio Cyber Reserve following a ransomware attack within the Fremont City School District; a $500,000 ransom was demanded. The team deployed and began restoring the network to the school’s control. The OhCR team contained and eradicated the entity from the network, restored control and provided the school’s IT team guidance to restore the network.

    OPERATION GUARDIAN TWISTER

    On March 14, an EF3 tornado and other sever weather caused extensive damage across multiple counties. Public infrastructure and communities were significantly impacted. On March 17, the Governor DeWine declared a state of emergency in 11 affected counties: Auglaize, Crawford, Darke, Delaware, Hancock, Licking, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Richland and Union.

  • February 2023

    OPERATION NIGHT TRAIN

    Ohio National Guard military police Soldiers supported civil law enforcement following a large-scale train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. The Ohio National Guard was activated at the request of Gov. Mike DeWine to support local and state authorities in providing cordon and traffic control around the incident site. Members of the 52nd Civil Support Team performed duty in a U.S.C. Title 32 active-duty status.

    COVID-19 RESPONSE

    Over 6,000 Ohio National Guard and State Defense Force members supported Ohioans through a multitude of humanitarian missions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
