The Ohio National Guard honors military children with its year-round schedule of workshops and camps designed to provide children with the tools necessary to grow and remain resilient in a diverse Family environment. The month of April has been designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month in the United States, to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities and individuals on how to prevent it. The Ohio National Guard will take part in several events throughout April, including a presentation at 10:30 a.m. April 9 at Joint Force Headquarters, and the second annual Race to Eliminate Sexual Violence 5K Run/Walk (images from last year's race pictured) April 13 at Scioto Audubon Park in downtown Columbus, Ohio. As part of TRICARE Awareness Week, April 22-25, nearly 18 new health care providers and eight members of the TRICARE Working Group attended the Ohio National Guard familiarization event April 25, 2013, at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus, Ohio. Attendees were informed that Soldiers, Airmen and their Families need providers to care for more TRICARE beneficiaries. Brig. Gen. Stephen Markovich, Ohio Air National Guard chief of staff and a family practice physician in his civilian occupation, requested the support of Ohio's medical community. Dr. Chrisanne Gordon, founder of the Resurrecting Lives Foundation, provided an overview of Traumatic Brain Injury and Bill Dobbertin, director of provider relations for Health Net, presented an overview on TRICARE.
