Four Ohio National Guard Airmen form an “O-H-I-O” before the Ohio State-Illinois military appreciation game Nov. 3, 2012, in Ohio Stadium. Service members presented the American flag during the national anthem and were honored during the game as part of the festivities.

Ohio National Guard Soldiers and Airmen were recognized on the field during the Ohio State vs. Illinois football game Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, in Columbus, Ohio. The Ohio State University hosted a Military Appreciation Day at Ohio Stadium, marked by a 52-22 victory for the Buckeyes.

On this day in Ohio National Guard history, Nov. 8, 1943, the first echelons of the 37th Infantry Division land at Empress Augusta Bay on the Pacific island of Bougainville. In this photo, the first wave of Combat Team 148 comes ashore from a landing craft.

The 2012 Columbus, Ohio Veterans Day Parade was held on Friday, Nov. 9 downtown and featured the Ohio National Guard's 122nd Army Band and 121st Air Refueling Wing.

Maj. Gen. Deborah A. Ashenhurst, Ohio adjutant general, hangs out with Cincinnati Bengals mascot “Who Dey” on Nov. 11, 2012, during the Bengals-New York Giants Veterans Day game. The Bengals, as well as several other NFL teams, honored veterans and current service members during their annual military appreciation game, which included more than 50,000 fans at the game participating in a pregame thank you to the military.

Staff Sgt. Eric Malone is welcomed home from Afghanistan by Family members Nov. 16, 2012, in Canton, Ohio. Malone and about 70 other Soldiers from Company B, 3rd Battalion, 238th Aviation Regiment (General Support Aviation Battalion) returned from a yearlong deployment providing CH-47 Chinook helicopter support for Army units in the Regional Command East area of operations in Afghanistan.

On this day in Ohio National Guard history, Nov. 27, 1925, Company C, 1st Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, Tiffin, is organized at Fremont as Company B, 148th Infantry, a designation it held until 1963. During World War II, the 148th Infantry had six of its Soldiers earn the Medal of Honor, with three coming from Company B -- Pvt. Rodger Young, Pfc. John Reese Jr. and Tech. Sgt. Cleto Rodriguez, who was the only one of the six to survive the war.
