Hispanic American Heritage month

As part of Hispanic American Heritage Month, the Ohio National Guard recognizes Tech. Sgt. Cleto L. Rodriguez, who served in Company B, 148th Infantry, 37th Infantry Division, Ohio Army National Guard during World War II. During the Battle of Manila on Feb. 9, 1945, Rodriquez and fellow Soldier Pfc. John Reese Jr. killed 82 enemy soldiers and completely disorganized the Japanese defense of the Paco Railroad Station in 2 1/2 hours of fighting. For their actions, both Rodriguez and Reese, who was killed later in the day, would be awarded the Medal of Honor.

On this day in Ohio National Guard history, Oct. 1, 1987, the 137th Aviation Regiment was constituted as a parent regiment under the U.S. Army Regimental System, with Headquarters in Worthington, Ohio.

2013 Combined Federal Campaign/Combined Charitable Campaign Kick-Off ceremony

The Combined Federal Campaign is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity program, with more than 200 CFC campaigns throughout the country and internationally to help to raise millions of dollars each year.

Deborah A. Ashenhurst, Ohio adjutant general, Oct. 13, 2012 during the annual fall OHARNG leaders conference. Gettys received the award, in part, for his coordination with multiple directorates and personnel while streamlining the organization's General Services Administration Transportation Motor Pool vehicle loan process.

Firefighters from the 180th Fighter Wing

Base firefighters worked to extract an unresponsive pilot during the exercise, which was part of the 180th Fighter Wing's Consolidated Unit Inspection.

Maj. Gen. Deborah A. Ashenhurst, Ohio adjutant general, welcomes home Soldiers from the Ohio Army National Guard's 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in October 2012 after the unit's yearlong deployment to Afghanistan. Last September, Ashenhurst was sworn in as the vice chair for Army of the National Guard Association of the United States, becoming only the second female to hold the position. NGAUS is the nation's oldest military association lobbying solely for the benefit of the National Guard and educating the public about the Guard's role and history in the U.S. Armed Forces.

On this day in Ohio National Guard history, Oct. 15, 1940, the 37th Division (Buckeye) was ordered into federal service by order of the president. The division arrived by Oct. 18 to Camp Shelby, Miss. for training, where the Soldiers would remain until February 1942. Seventy-one years later, on Oct. 15, 2011, the majority of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Buckeye) was ordered into federal service for the Global War on Terrorism and would also head to Camp Shelby for premobilization training. A day after arriving for duty in 1940, the 112th Engineer Regiment stood in formation for a photograph at the Central Armory in Cleveland before going to Camp Shelby.

The North Canton, Ohio-based unit, which returned from a yearlong deployment late last year, provided general aviation support for Army units in the Regional Command East area of operations in Afghanistan, moving more than 29,000 passengers and more than 2.5 million pounds of cargo during the unit’s deployment.
