On this day in Ohio National Guard history, Dec. 1, 1924, Company B, 147th Infantry is organized at Middletown, Ohio, the parent unit to today's 324th Military Police Company and Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 155th Chemical Battalion. When the company was ordered into active service in 1952 for the Korean War, it was designated as Company F, 147th Infantry. In this photo from July 23, 1954, Maj. Herman C. Gill (right), 2nd Battalion, 147th Infantry commander, presents the guidon of Company F to 1st Lt. Robert P. Copeland during 37th Infantry Day ceremonies at Camp Perry, Ohio. This ceremony marked the return of the division from active duty.

Staff Sgt. Tyler Ogden

Staff Sgt. Tyler Ogden (left), 178th Security Forces Squadron, receives the Purple Heart from Maj. Gen. Deborah A. Ashenhurst, Ohio adjutant general, Dec. 3, 2011, at Springfield Air National Guard Base, Ohio. Ogden was injured last July while deployed to Sather Air Base, Iraq, in support of Operation New Dawn.

On this day in Ohio National Guard history, Dec. 7, 1920, Company D, 1st Battalion, 145th Armored Regiment, currently stationed in Newton Falls, Ohio, was organized at Ravenna, Ohio as Troop L, Cavalry. In 1929 it was designated Headquarters Troop, 107th Cavalry. This photo of the troop was taken at Fort Knox, Ky., in 1938, just before the unit was redesignated as Troop F, 107th Cavalry, the name under which it fought during World War II.

1st Lt. Alfred Coburn LeFeber U.S. Sen. Rob Portman (left) and Brig. Gen. Mark Stephens (right), commander of the 121st Air Refueling Wing, present the Distinguished Flying Cross to former 1st Lt. Alfred Coburn LeFeber. The award — one of the nation's highest honors for gallantry in military service — was presented to LeFeber on Dec. 20, 2011, at a ceremony held in Portman's Cleveland office.

Dec. 25, 2008: Chaplain (Maj.) James Lewis, brigade chaplain for the 371st Sustainment Brigade, 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), leads service members through a prayer before a Christmas pageant begins at the main chapel, at Al Asad Air Base, Iraq. Lewis organized the event, called “Harold the Angel”, as a morale and welfare event for service members and civlians.

Soldiers of the 1484th Transportation Company, from North Canton, Ohio, roll out for a convoy mission from their base at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan. The Ohio Army National Guard unit is currently deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
