Time at home means time to help: Haskins resident makes masks to help frontline workers during COVID-19 pandemic

Lifelong Northwest Ohio resident Kelly Hale found a way to give back to her community and began making cloth masks in her small hometown of Haskins, Ohio, when Gov. Mike DeWine issued the order to stay at home March 22, 2020, in a statewide effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The efforts of Hale and her small army of friends and neighbors have produced hundreds of masks, allowing them to outfit area doctors and nurses, the Haskins police and fire departments, and members of the Ohio National Guard who are on state active duty supporting packaging and distribution operations at the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank.

Community giving comes full circle with Easter baskets for those in need

A group of Soldiers from the Ohio National Guard’s 2nd Squadron, 107th Cavalry Regiment — currently on state active duty supporting operations at the Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati during the COVID-19 pandemic — helps deliver meals and Easter baskets to the Friars Club, a nonprofit social service organization, to be provided to children and families of the Greater Cincinnati community. Just last year, community businesses and organizations helped sponsor the unit’s holiday brunch buffet, as well as an egg hunt and Easter baskets for children of unit members.

Ohio National Guard COVID-19 lab operators: On the front lines from behind the scenes

Connecting a Community from the Front Steps: Ohio Airman uses photography to raise spirits and donations for COVID-19 relief

Kristina Lee, daughter of Col. Andrew Lee, commander of the 179th Airlift Wing Medical Group in Mansfield, Ohio, was recently announced as the 2020 Military Child of the Year® Award recipient representing the National Guard. It is the third time in four years that the child of an Ohio National Guard member has won the national honor.
