Memorial Tournament returns with Military Appreciation Day 2021

During Military Appreciation Day at the Memorial Tournament, service members from all branches were honored during the brunch and had the opportunity to meet PGA legend Jack Nicklaus, founder of the Memorial Tournament, which ran June 3-6 this year.
Secretary of State names Guard member ‘Defender of Democracy’

Michael Walter (center), of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 137th Aviation Regiment, was presented the Defender of Democracy Award by Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (right) during a ceremony June 8, 2021, in Columbus, Ohio, with Ohio Army National Guard Maj. Gen. Steve Stivers (left) in attendance. The award honored Walter for going above and beyond to make sure Soldiers in his unit were able to cast their ballots in elections while they were deployed overseas.
37th IBCT’s historic
past at Fort Polk
The 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, currently conducting a Joint Readiness Training Center rotation at Fort Polk, La., previously trained extensively at the post in 1952, when the brigade’s ancestor, the 37th Infantry Division, was ordered into federal service and sent to then-Camp Polk, The division spent two years there in preparation for the Korean War, however did not forward deploy as a unit but nearly every Buckeye Division Soldier rotated to Korea as individual replacements. When the Ohio Guard members rotated, the division shifted its focus to being a training division and provided initial and advance training for new Soldiers and those rotating home from Korea. Ohio adjutant general conducts capstone visit with partner Hungary
Maj. Gen. John C. Harris Jr. (left), Ohio adjutant general, meets with Hungarian Minister of Defence Tibor Benkő June 10, 2021, in Budapest, Hungary. The meeting was part of Harris’ annual capstone visit to Hungary, with this year marking the 28th anniversary of the State Partnership Program pairing of the Hungarian Defence Forces and the Ohio National Guard. During the visit, Harris also met with Maj. Gen. Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, the newly appointed Hungarian army commander, and was a presenter at the inaugural International Hinterland Scientific Conference at the Stefánia Palace Cultural Center.

Ohio National Guard honors 246th Army birthday during ceremony

Brick by Brick: Father, Soldier builds family and career
For Staff Sgt. George Davis, a public affairs noncommissioned officer currently deployed overseas with the 196th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, the biggest obstacle he faces is balancing his military commitments with spending quality time with family — wife Stacy, a sixth-grade math teacher, and son Park. In the midst of all of life’s demands, Davis unintentionally learned that he and his son both have a passion for Legos, and have amassed more than 100,000 pieces over several projects and developed an even stronger father-son bond.
