Ohioans Serving Ohioans: ONG concludes 16-month mission supporting food banks

200th RED HORSE member is senior NCO of year for Air National Guard
Senior Master Sgt. Mark Schneider, a pavement, maintenance and construction equipment superintendent for the 200th RED HORSE in Port Clinton, Ohio, was named the Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for the Air National Guard earlier this year. He is the first 200th RED HORSE member to win the national-level competition.
Last rotations of 179th Airlift Wing return from overseas deployment
The last rotations of Airmen from the 179th Airlift Wing return to their home station July 9, 2021, in Mansfield, Ohio. Airmen with the 164th Airlift Squadron and 179th Maintenance Group have completed their missions flying and maintaining the C-130H Hercules aircraft in support of Operation Spartan Shield.

112th Fighter Squadron takes part in GIDE 3
Ohio Air National Guard Capt. North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command, in partnership with all 11 combatant commands, led the third in a series of GIDE events, which combine people and technology to innovate and accelerate system development for domain awareness, information dominance, decisional superiority and global integration.
Ohio’s COVID-19 Community Vaccination Center completes successful mission

Four OHARNG officers graduate from Army War College

Robert Lytton as the four Ohio Army National Guard field grade officers graduated from the U.S. Army War College distance education program July 23, 2021, at Carlisle Barracks, Pa. The ceremony celebrated the conclusion of a 24-month course to earn a master’s degree in strategic studies, and the graduating class represented a joint force of about 40 students who were competitively selected from the U.S. military, federal agencies and countries around the world.

It was 233 years ago on July 25, 1788, that the Northwest Territory Militia was established. Since then, the Ohio National Guard has played a vital role in providing aid after natural disasters and defending the nation during major conflicts. Asked to do more in the past year than any in recent history, the Ohio Guard has been ready to answer the call to deploy at a moment’s notice with professionalism and a dedication that exceeded expectations. That is the minuteman tradition woven into the fabric of our organization.

Ohio National Guard, State Defense Force to scale back COVID-19 response
The Ohio National Guard and Ohio State Defense Force are transitioning from the emergency COVID-19 response that began in March 2020 to a smaller, yet flexible, response force. The joint task force overseeing COVID-19 missions will scale back by July 30 to a force of about 40 personnel, who will continue providing logistics and vaccination support.
Guard members complete mission to supply critical PPE during COVID-19 pandemic
A group of about 40 Ohio National Guard members worked alongside Ohio Department of Health personnel at the State of Ohio’s Receive, Store and Stage warehouse to distribute personal protective equipment, medicine and supplies statewide to frontline medical personnel and other first responders. The Guard members recently completed their mission, part of a phased drawdown of Ohio National Guard COVID-19 mission support this summer.
