The Ohio National Guard mourns the loss of three Airmen assigned to the 121st Air Refueling Wing who died in a KC-135 Stratotanker crash in western Iraq, March 12, 2026. The three Airmen — Capt. Seth Koval, Capt. Curtis Angst and Master Sgt. Tyler Simmons — were among six crew members aboard a KC-135 that went down while flying a combat mission in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility during Operation Epic Fury.

Ohio Soldier’s third straight Lacerda Cup title helps National Guard to historic finish

U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers claimed three championship belts and delivered their strongest performance to date at the 2026 Lacerda Cup All-Army Combatives Championships, as two full National Guard teams placed third and sixth overall out of 21 Army teams. In the cruiserweight division, Ohio Army National Guard Sgt. Jeremiah Slagle secured his third consecutive Lacerda Cup title, becoming the second Soldier in the competition’s history to achieve that feat.

Maintainers key to keeping KC-135 Stratotankers operational year-round

Master Sgt. Austin Gordon, an aerospace ground equipment specialist with the 121st Maintenance Group, deices a KC-135 Stratotanker at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus, Ohio, Jan. 28, 2026. Maintainers operate from the lift of a deice bucket truck to ensure the aircraft’s surfaces are clear of ice and snow, preventing airflow disruptions upon takeoff and maintaining mission readiness despite freezing conditions.

Ohio National Guard celebrates State Partnership Program milestone at 2026 JSLC

The Ohio National Guard conducted its annual Joint Senior Leadership Conference at the Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center in Lewis Center, Ohio, Feb. 6, 2026. The conference included a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Ohio National Guard’s pairing with the Serbian Armed Forces through the State Partnership Program.

Maynus assumes leadership of Ohio Air National Guard

Brig. Gen. Clarence K. Maynus took charge of the Ohio Air National Guard during a change of command ceremony at the Maj. Gen. Robert S. Beightler Armory in Columbus, Ohio, April 12, 2026. Maynus succeeds Maj. Gen. David B. Johnson, outgoing assistant adjutant for Air, who is scheduled to retire later this year.
