  • Tactfully and courageously provide feedback to those in authority.

As we continue to strive for excellence in our operations, I want to address the importance of providing candid feedback, particularly in our interactions with those in positions of leadership. Creating a trusting environment where two-way feedback is encouraged is essential for our growth and effectiveness. Historically, the Ohio National Guard has thrived on clear and honest communication. Just as leaders rely on input from their subordinates to refine strategies and make informed decisions, we must foster a culture where everyone feels comfortable sharing their perspectives.

To achieve this, I encourage each of you to approach feedback with courage. This means being direct and constructive, focusing on the mission and our collective objectives. Avoid personal agendas, as they can undermine the value of the feedback. Soldiers, Airmen, and Civilians in the Ohio National Guard should be receiving informal feedback from their supervisor on a regular basis. Official documented feedback during the appraisal year is mandatory. Speak to your supervisor about your next feedback session. By actively seeking feedback, it will foster personal growth and enhance team effectiveness.
