Chinook helicopter unit to deploy to Afghanistan

NORTH CANTON, Ohio (11/2/2015) — About 20 Soldiers from the Ohio Army National Guard's Company B, 3rd Battalion, 238th Aviation Regiment are deploying in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel. A call to duty ceremony honoring the Soldiers was held Nov. 2 at the MAPS Air Museum. The unit operates the CH-47F Chinook, a twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy lift helicopter. Its primary roles are troop movement, equipment transport and battlefield resupply. The Soldiers will train at Fort Hood, Texas, before deploying to their designated assignment location in Afghanistan. The unit previously deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 and Operation Enduring Freedom in 2012.
