COLUMBUS, Ohio (03/19/2016) — Maj. Gen. John C. Harris, Jr., Ohio assistant adjutant general for Army, was honored recently by the Ohio High School Athletic Association with the organization’s highest award.
Harris received the Ohio Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity award during the Boys Basketball Division I state championship game March 19 in Value City Arena at The Jerome Schottenstein Center, located on the campus of The Ohio State University.
“Of all the honors I've received in my military career, this one is among the most inspiring to me,” Harris said. “Being recognized for being honorable and of good character is the highest compliment a person can receive.”
The award is the highest award bestowed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and is presented annually to an Ohioan who has demonstrated outstanding traits of ethical behavior and integrity in their everyday life, and who is looked upon as a role model for others.
“I also believe that I received this recognition due to the good work and sound reputation the Army National Guard enjoys in our communities and I'm fortunate to be the public figure that represents 11,500 great Americans,” Harris said.
Harris joins some well-known Ohioans who have previously received the award from OHSAA, including former Ohio State football head coach Jim Tressel, former Columbus television sports personality Jimmy Crum, former U.S. senator and astronaut John Glenn and former Ohio State football greats Archie Griffin and Chris Spielman. |
