COVERAGE OF OHIO AID IN HARVEY AFTERMATH


The Ohio National Guard has answered the call for assistance from the state of Texas through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC). Fourteen Soldiers and two CH-47 Chinook helicopters from the Ohio Army National Guard's Company B, 3rd Battalion, 238th Aviation Regiment are in Texas, ready to transport personnel, equipment and supplies. Airmen from the Ohio Air National Guard's 178th Wing are also providing support to the Lone Star State in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. (Sgt. Andrew Kuhn and Stephanie Beougher, ONG)

The Army National Guard is using helicopters to drop hay for cattle stranded in flooded areas near Beaumont. Over a week after Hurricane Harvey hit Southern Texas, residents are beginning the long process of recovering from the storm.

State, federal officials still checking toxic sites flooded by Harvey

AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott said state and federal authorities are still checking all the hazardous waste sites affected by flooding from Harvey. But Abbott said he has assurances from federal officials that none of the 11 affected Superfund sites still to be checked by the Environmental Protection Agency “pose any damage or danger to the public that is known at this time.”

KOUNTZE, Texas — Amid air drops from the latest model of Chinook helicopters came relief from an unexpected quarter: antique military aircraft piloted by museum volunteers. Since Harvey hit Texas, the Hixson Museum of Flight, which typically offers flights in its working antiques to chronically ill children, has dedicated its planes to flying supplies into affected areas.
