Central Ohio students analyze computer system vulnerabilities during a cyber capture the flag event March 6, 2018, at Westerville North High School in Westerville, Ohio. Sponsored by the Ohio Cyber Collaboration Committee, the event tested students on various cyber security skills to prepare them for potential future careers in technology.

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (03/06/18) — As part of a day of events surrounding Gov. John Kasich’s State of the State address, the Ohio Cyber Collaboration Committee (OC3) partnered with Westerville City Schools to host a cyber capture the flag event March 6 at Westerville North High School.

During the daylong capture the flag event, students from Westerville and other Central Ohio school districts and colleges worked in teams of two to solve a series of real-world scenarios to test their technical skills and knowledge of cybersecurity. Teams could retrieve virtual flags when they successfully solved the challenges, and trophies were awarded for first-, second- and third-place finishers.

OC3, a collaborative effort of more than 100 public, private, military and educational organizations led by the Ohio National Guard, was initiated by Gov. Kasich to develop a stronger cybersecurity infrastructure and provide innovative training and education to strengthen Ohio’s cyber workforce. The OC3 Cyber Range is a virtual training ground accessible for competitions, training and as a testing environment for schools, governments and businesses.
