EDINBURGH, Ind. (10/05/2018) — Nearly 600 with the 38th Infantry Division, headquartered in Indianapolis, are at Camp Atterbury this week to participate in a warfighter exercise, which will evaluate the Soldiers’ proficiencies as they respond and communicate to various battlefield scenarios throughout the training.

“Warfighter 19.1 is a unique opportunity for the 38th Infantry Division to develop proficiency in collective training tasks in a decisive-action environment,” said Maj. Gen. Gordon L. Ellis, the division’s commanding general. “It provides the division with the opportunity to conduct operations in conjunction with other divisions and a higher, corps headquarters.”

The skills the troops learn during the exercise will translate into domestic, national and international civilian- and military-led missions. It will prepare the division’s headquarters for deployment to support U.S. interests anywhere in the world.

“Upon completion of Warfighter 19.1, the 38th Infantry Division will have elevated its collective training proficiency and will be prepared to conduct decisive-action operations, anywhere, anytime, when called,” Ellis said.

Warfighter exercises train the command and staff teams in six areas: command and control, movement and maneuver, intelligence, targeting processes, sustainment and protection.

The 38th ID, nicknamed the Cyclone Division, also has units located in Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. The Cyclone Division is one of eight National Guard and one of 18 U.S. Army divisions.
