F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 180th Fighter Wing and a KC-135 Stratotanker from the 121st Air Refueling Wing, both assigned to the Ohio National Guard, fly over The Ohio State University football stadium as part of a series of flybys over the Columbus, Ohio area, May 13, 2020. The flybys were conducted as part of the Department of Defense’s Operation American Resolve. The Salute Ohio flybys were conducted as a small thank you to Ohio’s heroes working on the frontlines to protect residents and keep Ohio running during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

03/23/2020: MISSION BEGAN

Approximately 30 personnel form the planning group behind all National Guard missions activated by governor’s proclamation. As the headquarters element, all currently activated members of the Ohio National Guard and Ohio Military Reserve (OHMR) fall under the JTF-37 command structure.

Roles & Responsibilities in Our Communities
In addition to those Soldiers, Airmen and OHMR members conducting current missions, key leaders from the JTF-37 HQ are visiting various sites in the state throughout the overall Operation Steady Resolve mission period to coordinate support of COVID-19 relief efforts.

Approximately 30 members of the Ohio National Guard and Ohio Military Reserve are supporting the Ohio Emergency Management Agency and the Ohio Department of Health with the state’s collection of personal protective equipment, which is worn to minimize exposure to hazards.

  • Members of the Ohio Military Reserve, based in Columbus, are receiving, inventorying, storing and packaging PPE.

Approximately 15 National Guard liaison officers and up to 20 additional personnel are supporting the Ohio Department of Health and Ohio Emergency Management Agency to identify potential sites for use as alternate medical facilities.

Ohio National Guard members support the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in response to confirmed COVID-19 cases at the Pickaway Correctional Institution, Orient, Ohio. 20 Airmen of the 200th RED HORSE Squadron, Camp Perry, Ohio, work with 10 soldiers from the 16th Engineer Brigade, to stand up the Disaster Relief Bed-down Sets, Apr. 18, 2020. The DRBS will help to provide additional sanitized living quarters, showers and latrines for inmates to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Federal Correctional Institute Elkton

04/06/2020:  MISSION BEGAN

Approximately 35 Ohio National Guard medical personnel are temporarily supporting the regular staff at Federal Correctional Institution Elkton in Columbiana County. These Guard members are providing medical services, equipment and transportation for patients if more serious acute care is needed. This mission is scheduled to conclude on April 24, 2020.

 

Roles & Responsibilities in Our Communities

National Guard members are entering and exiting the FCI Elkton facility to conduct their support mission. They may also travel to civilian hospitals and health care facilities in the area, if an inmate needs transported there for care.

Pickaway Correctional Institute

04/13/2020: MISSION BEGAN

A team of approximately 30 Soldiers and Airmen are supporting the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction at the state facility near Orient. National Guard medics are assisting with triage, taking temperatures, checking vital signs and other basic medical care. Additionally, Guard members have erected temporary housing at the facility to improve social distancing among the congregate inmate population.

Marion Correctional Institution

04/19/2020: MISSION BEGAN

The Ohio National Guard is assisting the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction with approximately 50 members for medical and mission essential support at the Marion Correctional Institution in Marion.

Ohio National Guard personnel are entering and exiting the facility to augment staff at the prison.

Franklin Medical Center

04/22/020: MISSION BEGAN

At the request of the governor, the Ohio National Guard has 25 members providing staffing support for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction’s Franklin Medical Center in Columbus. They are serving as public safety officers to monitor inmates who are being treated at The Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center.

Roles & Responsibilities in Our Communities

Unarmed National Guard personnel are at the hospital performing their mission as public safety officers, augmenting state corrections officers.

Ohio Reformatory for Women

Ohio National Guard personnel are supporting the Ohio Reformatory for Women, in Marysville, with temporary housing facilitation to improve social distancing among the congregate inmate population.
