COLUMBUS, Ohio–Fun, food, laughter and of course, Santa Claus, filled the National Guard armory on Sullivant Avenue Dec. 13, 2009 as the 285th Medical Company’s Family Readiness Group planned a wonderful and entertaining holiday celebration for Soldiers, families, and friends. About 120 people gathered to enjoy the festivities and continue to develop strong bonds with one another.

Lt. Col. Mark Cappone, newly-appointed commander of the 371st Special Troops Battalion, took time out of his schedule to stop by and introduce himself and express his gratitude to the Soldiers, families, and friends in attendance.

Children enjoyed exploring the Center of Science and Industry’s (COSI) Science Spot traveling exhibition. COSI sent two trained team members to set up a few kiosks showing different themes in science, such as forces and motion and gadgets and gizmos. These kiosks were a big hit as children played and learned at each one.

Children were also busy making snowflake ornaments, reindeer candy pots, and other crafts. Holiday movies caught the attention of many children as they played on a large projector screen. The kids were also thrilled when they heard the “Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas!” as Santa Claus walked through the doors. They each took a turn sitting on Santa’s lap as he passed out presents to each child. Some cried and others smiled and told Santa how good they were this year.

The 285th continues to focus on retention and strength management and three Soldiers re-enlisted at the holiday party in front of their families and friends.
