On this day in Ohio National Guard history, June 6, 1944, the 112th Engineer Battalion lands on the beaches of Normandy, France in support of the 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions. Warrant Officer Charles D. Moore and Master Sgt. Joseph P. Medved, Headquarters and Service Company, 112th Engineer Battalion, would be awarded the Silver Star Medal for their D-day heroism.
