Focus on State Partnership Program: South Euclid, Ohio and Kraljevo, Serbia to connect through Sister Cities program Ohio National Guard Soldiers and Airmen work with members of the Serbian Armed Forces during a reconstruction project at the Svetozar Markovic Primary School in Kraljevo, Serbia in 2012. The school was damaged during a 5.3 magnitude earthquake in 2010 that damaged nearly 6,000 buildings in the town. On this day in Ohio National Guard history, Sept. 26, 1918 The American Expeditionary Force (AEF) launches the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, which was the main portion of the final Allied offensive that ended World War I. The 37th “Buckeye” Division, 166th Infantry and 2nd Battalion, 372nd Infantry are all credited with participation in various phases of the largest offensive in U.S. military history. |

On this day in Ohio National Guard history, Sept. 27, 1918 2nd Lt. Albert E. Baesel of Company B, 148th Infantry, 37th Division was killed near Ivoiry, France while attempting to rescue a wounded Soldier during the Meuse-Argonne Campaign. For his action he would be awarded the Medal of Honor. |
