A case study in motivation: Shedding pounds, unhealthy habits to become a Citizen-Soldier

In this before and after shot, Matt Logsdon shows the transformation he went through to be eligible to join the Ohio Army National Guard. By changing his diet and exercising two hours a day, six days a week for a year, Logsdon was able to lose 145 pounds and improve his body fat percentage from 52% to 20%.

Capt. Jill Hoffman receives the 945th Engineer Company guidon as the incoming commander during a change of command ceremony Jan. 11, 2020, at the Norwalk Armory in Norwalk, Ohio. Hoffman, the first female commander in the unit’s nearly 150-year history, took over for Capt. Guard members give ‘MORE’ as volunteer reading mentors

Sgt. 1st Class Nena Slate of the Ohio Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion is among Guard members who volunteer as reading mentors through Project MORE (Mentoring in Ohio for Reading Excellence). The nonprofit program at schools across Ohio matches adults to serve as mentors with children who have reading deficits, with the goal of every child participant becoming a better reader.

Airmen of the Ohio Air National Guard’s 179th Airlift Wing and 200th RED HORSE (Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineer) Squadron load Disaster Relief Bed-down Systems (DRBS) onto trucks to be sent in response to Puerto Rico earthquake relief efforts, Jan. 16, 2020, in Mansfield, Ohio. Each DRBS kit is self-sufficient with organic power and potable water systems that provide billeting, health and hygeine support for 150 personnel in support of domestic operations missions.

Members of 179th Security Forces Squadron return from deployment

Airmen with the 179th Airlift Wing Security Forces Squadron are welcomed back Jan. 30, 2020, in Mansfield, Ohio, following a six-month overseas deployment in support of U.S. Central Command. All Air National Guard members mobilized from their home unit are out-processed prior to their departure to serve on active duty and in-processed back into their Guard unit upon their return.
