Signal company deploys in support of U.S.  Central Command

About 30 members of the 1137th Signal Company (Tactical Installation and Networking-Enhanced, or TIN-E), located in Springfield, Ohio, are honored during the unit's call to duty ceremony at the First Christian Church in Springfield, Jan. 12, 2024. While deployed, the Soldiers will provide installation, recovery, repair and maintenance of telecommunications network lines and infrastructure throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

A fixture in the community for nearly 150 years: St. Marys memorializes former Ohio National Guard armory, resident units

The city of St. Marys, Ohio has dedicated a memorial to honor the Ohio National Guard units and armory that have been part of the western Auglaize County community since 1877. Seen in the background, the original armory was built in 1920 and was closed in 2020, with the last Ohio Army National Guard tenant unit relocated to Lima, Ohio.

Ohio National Guard completes cleanup mission in Southern Ohio

Ohio National Guard members have completed a mission in Southern Ohio where they helped clear nearly 230 miles of roadway during a 15-day activation. Gov. Mike DeWine directed about 100 Guard engineers to assist with ice storm cleanup and debris removal in Gallia and Lawrence counties from Feb. 21 to March 2, 2021.

A Beloved Man: Guard member with Cherokee heritage leads with character, values, beliefs

Ohio Army National Capt. Chris Brandt, who is of Cherokee heritage, is a devoted family man and dedicated Soldier and leader. Brandt cites his character, values and beliefs as heavily impacted by his Cherokee culture. “My version of a worldview, if you will, is influenced by what’s important in the Cherokee culture,” Chris said. “Take care of the earth. Act honorably. Be honest. Try to have fun. There are a lot of misunderstandings about what it is to be Indian, you know, Cherokees aren’t a stoic people. A sense of humor is highly valued.”

Ohio’s Williams to take command of 91st Cyber Brigade

Col. Teri D. Williams, who works full time as the chief information officer (G6/J6) for the Ohio National Guard, has been selected to become the next commander of the Virginia National Guard’s 91st Cyber Brigade, which provides training and readiness oversight for cyber units across 31 states. Williams has been the officer in charge of the annual Cyber Shield exercise for the past three years, briefs participants during the 2019 iteration at Camp Atterbury, Ind.

New, nontraditional Army signal company activated

A new Ohio Army National Guard network operations unit was established during an activation ceremony Oct. 20, 2019, at the 216th Engineer Battalion’s headquarters, located at the Woodlawn Training and Community Center in Cincinnati. The new unit will provide a multitude of cable, wire and fiber optic systems installation and maintenance capabilities.

Female Army Guard member excels in traditionally male-dominated fields in both military, civilian careers

Pvt. Ashley Schwamberger is a combat engineer with the Ohio Army National Guard’s 811th Engineer Company and a firefighter with the Portsmouth Fire Department on the southern Ohio border. She said it is not a big deal to serve in both civilian and military career fields traditionally dominated by men as long as everyone is professional and performs their job as it is supposed to be done.

D-Day 75: Ohio National Guard Soldiers who were there

On June 6, 1944, more than 160,000 allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of beaches at Normandy, France. Two Ohio National Guard units, the 112th Combat Engineer Battalion and 987th Field Artillery Battalion, were involved in the D-Day invasion. The 112th would land at Omaha Beach in support of the 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions, where it would receive the Presidential Unit Citation.
