37th IBCT, Hungarian Defence Forces conduct bilateral training during JRTC rotation

A 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Soldier (right) welcomes a Hungarian Defence Forces member to the Joint Readiness Training Center June 15, 2021, at Fort Polk, La. A 130-member HDF contingent joined the 37th IBCT during its monthlong training rotation at JRTC, along with units from several other National Guard states, to train on large-scale combat operations on the battlefield.

Living the American Dream: Military has provided family, friends, career for South Korean immigrant

Spc. John Owen, a chaplain’s assistant with the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, provides overwatch security during an exercise June 13, 2021, at the Joint Readiness Training Center in Fort Polk, La. Owen was born in South Korea and raised in an orphanage until he was 7, when he was adopted and eventually came to America.

179th AW selected as preferred location for Air National Guard’s first cyber warfare wing

The Department of the Air Force announced Aug. 25 that it has identified Ohio’s Mansfield-Lahm Air National Guard Base as the preferred location for the first ANG cyber warfare wing in the country. The transformation will support Air Combat Command’s future requirements and result in operational mission changes, including an increase of about 175 Airmen and associated infrastructure support at the base

121st Airman is Ohio Air National Guard Recruiter of Year

Tech. Sgt. Jordan Hopson of the 121st Air Refueling Wing is the Ohio Air National Guard’s Recruiter of the Year, facilitating 79 enlistments in federal fiscal year 2020, the most in the entire Air National Guard. After being a member of the 121st Security Forces Squadron for the first five years of his career, he decided he wanted to become a recruiter so he could give back to the wing and to the ANG and help others share in some of the experiences and opportunities the Guard has given him, he said.

Marker for MOH recipient dedicated at Ohio Veterans’ Memorial Park

Rebecca Miller (left) and Peggy Whitcomb, both members of the Akron Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, unveil the marker for Medal of Honor recipient Pvt. Rodger Young during a dedication ceremony Aug. 29, 2021, at the Ohio Veterans’ Memorial Park in Clinton, Ohio. Young was a member of Company B, 148th Infantry, 37th Infantry Division when he was killed in action July 31, 1943, while destroying a Japanese machine gun nest on the island of New Georgia during World War II. Young was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 1944. The marker was dedicated near the Medal of Honor memorial at the park and was sponsored by the members of the Akron Chapter.
