1884: Ebenezer B. Finley (1833-1916) was the Ohio adjutant general in 1884 when Company A,
8th Infantry was organized in his hometown of Bucyrus. The company adopted the local designation of
Finley Guards in his honor. A lawyer and judge, Finley served as an officer in Company K,
24th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.
