Survivors and Guard members remember deadly Xenia tornado on 45th anniversary
Ohio National Guard Soldiers and Airmen on state active duty assisted in the cleanup efforts in Xenia, Ohio after an April 3, 1974, tornado. The F-5 storm that destroyed or damaged thousands of homes, businesses and schools was responsible for 33 deaths, and hundreds more injured.
Ohio-Serbia State Partnership
Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić led a delegation that met with Ohio National Guard, political, academic and business leaders to promote mutual relations and discuss areas of potential economic cooperation during a visit to Ohio’s capital. The Ohio National Guard and the Serbian Armed Forces have been partnered since 2006, under the U.S. Department of Defense’s State Partnership Program.

Citizen-Soldier steps out of comfort zone for growth opportunities
Meet Ohio Army National Guard 1st Lt. Valerie Stearns, who was one of the first females integrated into combat arms and the first female platoon leader at the 812th Engineer Company (Sapper). Stearns, who is also a licensed elementary school teacher, says that “it’s important to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself in new ways. It’s how you become better.”

Jones, the state command chief master sergeant for the Ohio Air National Guard, attributes the success in his military career to the strong support of his family, who he said serve beside him. He says the sacrifices made by Military Families allow service members to focus on their duty to defend the nation.

Following the end of World War I, Ohio National Guard units returned from France to Ohio in the spring of 1919, making stops in various cities around the state for homecoming parades prior to demobilization at Camp Sherman in Chillicothe, Ohio.
