The 811th Engineer Company “Hellhounds” conducted a different - but welcome - type of training during their December drill assembly. With the help and support of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post, the unit held their annual holiday party for the Soldiers and their families and loved ones. Family-oriented events like this are crucial for Soldier and unit morale and cohesion.
Like any other drill weekend, before festivities could begin, the first sergeant held an accountability formation and conducted roll call with a quick “Here, first sergeant!” coming from the excited Hellhounds waiting to start the party. The 811th was soon after given a warm welcome by members of the local VFW who sponsored this event and provided the venue. A tasty dinner
|
was prepared by the VFW volunteer staff and served by 811th Soldiers. Time was spent enjoying good food and relaxing conversation - a welcome euphoric atmosphere for all in attendance.
Following the dinner, the 811th leaders conducted annual briefings followed by an awards and promotion ceremony, with families witnessing the recognition and accomplishments of their Soldiers. The troops also conducted a gift exchange for the adults, which provided many laughs, and a Santa visit for the children. This event is something the 811th both looks forward to and relishes every year and the end of 2009 was no different. |
