COLUMBUS, Ohio (8/26/16) — Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon L. Kennedy presented “Women’s Equality Day: The Right to Vote,” as part of the ongoing Ohio National Guard Leadership Development Series, Aug. 26, 2016, at the Maj. Gen. Robert S. Beightler Armory in Columbus, Ohio. This year marks the 96th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. In 1971, Congress designated Aug. 26 as Women’s Equality Day to commemorate the 19th Amendment’s passage and to celebrate women’s continuing efforts toward equality. Kennedy, who has sat on the Ohio Supreme Court since 2012, previously served on the Butler County Court of Common Pleas, worked as a lawyer in private practice and began her career in the justice system as a police officer in Hamilton, Ohio.
