On this day in Ohio National Guard history, Oct. 31, 1872: The 1487th Transportation Company in Piqua is organized in Covington as the Covington Guard, an independent militia company. The unit was mustered into the Ohio National Guard on July 8, 1873, and has credit for participation in World War I, World War II, Southwest Asia and the War on Terrorism.
