Ohio National Guard provides support to Cleveland Police Department

Members of an Ohio National Guard joint task force provide security at the Cleveland Museum of Art, in support of the Cleveland Police Department, during ongoing protests June 3, 2020, in Cleveland. There have been more than 900 Ohio National Guard and Ohio Military Reserve members who have served their communities during the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Missions have included everything from supporting humanitarian efforts at 14 local food banks and regional warehouses to collecting personal protective equipment, collaborating with regional partners to identify and develop alternate care sites to expand medical capacity, and augmenting medical and operational staff at prisons.

Ohio National Guard Soldier serving community has family connection to during COVID-19 pandemic

Maj. Ohio Guard members build bridges over language barriers at food bank

Spcs. Kirk, a chaplain assistant, works as an interpreter in his civilian occupations and has been serving as an interpreter for the large number of Spanish-speaking families coming through the food bank’s distribution lines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Roman, a fire control specialist whose first language is Spanish, has also been serving as an interpreter at the food bank. In his civilian occupation, Roman works as nurse where he focuses on children’s mental health..

Guard member helps family friend, pregnant COVID-19 patient at Columbus hospital

Pfc. Dal Sum, an infantryman with Company C, 1st Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, is recognized by Col. Matthew Woodruff, commander of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and Joint Task Force 37, May 8, 2020, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Sum, who was providing operational support to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for its Franklin Medical Center inmates being treated at the hospital, answered the call when nurses needed a Burmese translator who speaks Zomi to communicate with a pregnant COVID-19 patient who required a caesarean section.

The Ohio National Guard is working with community health partners to offer COVID-19 testing to all citizens at several sites throughout the state. The ability to provide free and increased testing helps provide critical information to public health officials during the pandemic and helps communities to be safer.

Ohio Guard facilitates COVID-19 tests for governor, first lady, lieutenant governor

Ohio National Guard medical personnel prepare swabs to take samples from Gov. Mike DeWine (not pictured), First Lady Fran DeWine (on podium, left) and Lt. Gov. Ohio Guard team provides lifeline for assisted living facility overwhelmed by COVID-19

Staff Sgt. Mark Young, a financial management specialist assigned to the 121st Air Refueling Wing, talks to Kathy Russell, a resident of the Carlin House, May 27, 2020, in Logan, Ohio.
