122nd Army Band marches in return of Red, White & BOOM! parade

Members of the 122nd Army Band march in the Red, White & BOOM! parade July 1, 2022, in Columbus, Ohio. Not conducted since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Red, White & BOOM! typically attracts over 400,000 to the city’s downtown riverfront area and features a street festival, live music and fireworks to celebrate Independence Day.

Battery C, 2-174th Air Defense Artillery Regiment returns home from deployment

The Soldiers provided support to Operation Inherent Resolve during the unit’s yearlong overseas mission.

179th Airlift Wing Final Flight of the C-130H Hercules

Pilots from the 164th Airlift Squadron at the 179th Airlift Wing at Mansfield Lahm Air National Guard Base in Mansfield, Ohio, stand outside their aircraft after their final flight on July 7, 2022. This aircraft, tail 88-4401, will retire and become a static display at the MAPS Air Museum (Military Aviation Preservation Society), an internationally known aviation museum in North Canton, Ohio. After being selected to become the nation’s first Air National Guard cyberspace wing, the unit is transitioning from flying the C-130H Hercules to a new mission.

2022 Civilian Marksmanship Program National Matches underway at Camp Perry

Harry A. Sieben Jr., secretary of the Civilian Marksmanship Program, fires the ceremonial first shot at the CMP’s National Matches July 12, 2022, at the Camp Perry Joint Training Center near Port Clinton, Ohio. The event is a monthlong mix of original CMP matches along with traditional pistol, smallbore, high-power rifle and long-range rifle competitions, attracting hundreds of elite-level pistol and rifle shooters from around the world.

Ohio Cyber Reserve takes part in UC exercise

About 20 members of the Ohio Cyber Reserve test their incident response skills during a cybersecurity exercise led by the Ohio Cyber Range Institute July 15, 2022, at the University of Cincinnati. The OhCR is a volunteer force under the Ohio Adjutant General’s Department, available to assist eligible municipalities with cybersecurity assessments and incident responses.

Engineers help improve road infrastructure in Wayne National Forest

Soldiers with the 1191st Engineer Company, based in Portsmouth, Ohio, conducted heavy equipment operations during annual training this June in the Wayne National Forest, near Ironton, Ohio. The partnership provides hands-on training for Soldiers while improving the safety and mobility within the forest, for both visitors and U.S. Forest Service employees.

Media members spend day learning about Ohio National Guard

Members of the media take part in an Ohio National Guard orientation flight July 22, 2022, at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus, Ohio. The flight was manned by a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crew from 1st Battalion, 137th Aviation Regiment and highlighted a day where the media also learned about the domestic response capabilities of the Ohio Homeland Response Force. Familiarization and orientation events provide an opportunity to highlight roles and missions of the National Guard.
